Below is a copy of the confirmation of Daniel’s invitation to ride for his country.
Congratulations Daniel, a great performance.
Congratulations on being selected to represent Great Britain in the Special Olympics European Summer Games – Cycling Team to be held in Antwerp, Belgium from 13th – 20th September 2014.
The GB Cycling Team is as follows:
Supported by Coach: Andrew Martin
Daniel Weston has recently been putting in some impressive performances. He was competing in the Special Olympics National event (for athletes with learning disabilities) where he received 2 silver medals. The event took place at the Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton under Lyme.
7th Place – Conker
(2 races, one win and a seventh mean that Conker has been upgraded to a third category rider, congratulations and let me know when you become a Second cat)
1st Place – Scott Gurnett
(Anybody who knows Scott will know that on a hilly circuit he can mix it with the best in the country as he did on a number of occasions last season. Ilton however is a flat circuit so it now looks like a winter of hard training, whatever the weather, has paid off and Scott has become an all round rider. Congratulations and I hope to be listing many more wins for Scott and Conker this year).
12th Place – Jeremy Summers
(Sorry I don’t have a time for Jeremy but it should be noted that this was achieved after a winter of turbo sessions, very often 2 per day with only two road rides, congratulations to Jeremy)
1st Place – Graham (Conker) Collins
I believe that this was Conker’s first ever road race, obviously his fitness and determination to win from many years of competitive running have transferred extremely well to cycling.
